Current Projects

	The Pedestrian Fight Against Freight & Port Related Safe Street Challenges The harbor communities of Wilmington and San Pedro are located at the most southern tip of the City of Los Angeles. Adjacent to North America's two largest ports and major oil refineries, its location is a source of working class jobs. However, it also creates a number of safe street and public health challenges, especially related to freight traffic. Through a campaign called Calles Seguras Familias Sanas, over the past three years the community and safe street promotoras have been organizing the City and elected offices to secure life-saving pedestrian infrastructure.
	Caught in Between: Developing the County's Pedestrian Plan for Unincorporated LA Through a partnerships with groups like the LA County Department of Health, Willowbrook Inclusion Network and the East Side Riders Bike Club, Los Angeles Walks has been partnering with South LA community members on a number of safe street changes. Through community workshops and organizing events, we learn about walking needs facing this community (i.e.: illegal street dumping, trash, gang violence, lack of pedestrian infrastructure) and engage the County and government to meet these needs.
	Transforming Pedestrian Access to LA's Transit Hub: Union Station Los Angeles Walks is working with LA Metro to improve walkability to and from LA's Union Station. The station is notorious for being inaccessible to bicyclists and pedestrians despite being a major hub for public buses and trains. We will be engaging the local community on how to transform Union Station and its surrounding streets into a world class facility accessible to ALL Angelenos, be it on foot, bike, or car.
	Words Matter: LADOT's Spanish Glossary Project So much of safe street organizing begins with understanding the basics of the built environment. What is a curb ramp, a continental crosswalk, or a bulb out? Putting into words and technical terms your vision of streets is essential for any safe street organizer. And so, we are working with LADOT on creating an official Spanish language glossary of transportation vocabulary. More to come once completed!

Reimagining Eagle Rock's Colorado Blvd. Community members of Eagle Rock are2 working to bring high quality public transit and better walkability to Colorado Boulevard. Learn more about the Beautiful Boulevard project here.

Organizing around Los Feliz's Hyperion Ave. The Los Feliz Neighborhood Council is looking to make Hyperion Avenue more safe and accessible to all modes of transit. Get involved with the Neighborhood Council here.

First and Last Mile for LA Metro Purple Line Los Angeles Walks led LA Metro's First & Last Mile (FLM) community engagement work for the upcoming stations of Wilshire/La Cienega, Wilshire/Fairfax, and Wilshire La Brea.
