Charu Kukreja is an urban planner, writer, and designer with broad experience on projects on the east coast and Southern California. Her work supports her vision to enhance transportation access and equity, and promote the development of vibrant, safe and walkable communities. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, Charu was a core member of the New York City Department of Transportation’s WalkNYC project team to develop a citywide pedestrian wayfinding system. A variety of print, digital and environmental applications of this world-class map and signage system now serve pedestrians, bike share cyclists, tourists, and transit riders across New York City.

Charu’s love of walking was inspired at an early age by her grandfather, who showed her how a daily stroll allows us to connect with our surroundings and with each other. Now 98 years old - and still walking every day - his life is a testament to the positive impacts of walking on long-term physical and mental health. With this inspiration, Charu is driven forward on her mission to improve walkability in urban communities.

Joshua Crowell has committed his legal career to holding corporate America accountable and vindicating the rights of the greater public. Having grown up in the High Desert, attended college in Minnesota and law school in Washington D.C., and started practicing law in New York, he settled in Los Angeles in 2012. He was a partner of a law firm that brought class actions against large corporations for violating the securities laws. Then he started a solo firm representing workers who suffered discrimination, harassment, or wage theft. Currently, he is a Deputy City Attorney in the Affirmative Litigation Division of the LA City Attorney’s Office. He brings civil law enforcement actions against unlawful, unfair, or fraudulent business practices that harm city residents. Since 2014, he has lived in DTLA, a place that highlights the city’s wonderful mix of peoples but also its deplorable indifference to people in need and its harmful reliance on motor vehicles. As someone who has spent most of his adult life walking and using public transportation, he cares about pedestrian safety and making our streets accessible for all residents. He enjoys running, watching British detective shows, reading and talking about urban policy, and traveling with his spouse.
